CF8M / 316 stainless steel is a modification of 304 stainless steel with the addition of 2.0% to 3.0% molybdenum to provide improved resistance to reducing corrosives and pitting attack by chlorides as found in seawater. Careful balance of the chemical composition strengthens this alloy to levels well above most specifications.
